Area teams begin season's work

One thing the end of July signifies is that a new high school sports season is just around the corner.

The N.C. High School Athletic Association has set Aug. 1 as the official first day of practices.

Leading off the seasons, teams will host tryouts and practices, followed by scrimmages and practices, before finally beginning the '10 season.

The following sports' schedules were submitted from coaches and athletic directors.

Football

Starmount: The Rams will begin football practice on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. All players must have an updated physical before they are allowed to practice. A team meeting will be held at 5:30 at the field house before practice begins. For more information, call Coach Johnson at 468-2891.

Forbush: The Falcons will begin practice at 5 p.m. on Aug. 2. Players shuold meet at the field house.

Soccer

Forbush: The Falcons will hold tryouts at 8 a.m. on Aug. 2. Prospective players should meet at the track for conditioning and then again at 5 p.m. for tryouts at the lower field.

Volleyball

Starmount: The Rams will hold two tryout sessions beginning on Aug. 2. The first session will be held from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and the second will be held 5:30-8 p.m. at the gym.

Forbush: The Falcons will begin workouts on Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. at the gym.

Women's Tennis

Forbush: The Falcons will begin practice on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. at the high school tennis courts.

Cross Country

Forbush: The Falcons will begin the season with their first official practice on Aug. 2 at 6 p.m. Runners should meet at the Yadkin County Park.

Women's Golf

Forbush: Falcon golf players will begin their season on Aug. 10 at 4 p.m. at Silo Run Golf Course.

Cheerleading

Forbush: The Falcon's spirit squad will begin preparations for the fall season on Aug. 2 at 5 p.m., meeting at the field house at the field house.
