BOONVILLE– Mr. Thurmond Odell Taylor, 88, passed away Saturday, Jan. 9, 2010. He was born Oct. 29, 1921 in Surry County to the late Arthur Taylor and Celia Taylor Coe.

He was a longtime farmer and retired from Boonville Elementary School as custodian after 17 years.

He loved gardening and fishing and spending time with his family.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Jenkins Taylor; son, Ralph Taylor; sister, Alma Whitaker, who passed away just hours before Thurmond; and half sister, Pansy Coe Whitaker.

Surviving are his children, Virginia (Mike) Flagg with whom he lived, Minnie (J.C.) Stanley, and Kenneth Taylor; grandchildren, Matthew, Rebecca, Joshua Tucker, Jennifer Flagg, Linda (Benny) Poindexter, Brenda (Danny) Mills, Ronnie (Pam) Stanley, Johnny (Sharon) Stanley, Greg (Debbie) Taylor, Daphne Ammar and Tori Taylor; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

His funeral service was held Tuesday, Jan. 12, at Gentry Family Chapel in Yadkinville by the Rev. Anthony Wike and the Rev. Billy Jo Jenkins.

Burial followed at Little Vine Primitive Church Cemetery.

The family received friends Monday, Jan. 11, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.

The family would like to thank Home Health and Hospice and Dr. Lester Brown and staff for all the love and care shown to Thurmond.
