The Yadkin County Commissioners met briefly Monday and voted for the county to pay individual legal fees for the commissioners in the upcoming hearing.

Commissioners agreed during discussion that each had been advised by various legal authorities to obtain individual council to advise them during the show cause hearing scheduled for Jan. 8. However, when the vote was called for, commissioners Brady Wooten, David Moxley and Kevin Austin voted in favor and Chad Wagoner and Tommy Garner voted against.

Judge John Craig gave the commissioners advance notice of the hearing during the Nov.16 meeting.

The show cause hearing, according to Craig, is to provide the commissioners an opportunity to prove they have not neglected their duties, among other allegations, by failing to break ground on a new jail on the Hoots Road in Yadkin County.

Craig has promised stiff penalties against the commissioners individually, should he not be satisfied regarding their action to date, to provide the county with a new jail.

This is the most recent action regarding the apparent inadequacies in the confinement facilities in Yadkin County. This has been an issue for local government for more than four years. The upcoming hearing has the potential to result in a change in the relationship between the legislative and judicial branches of government.

Isn't that convenient. I think my coworkers and myself should get together and vote for the company to pay for our gas to get back and forth to work each day.
