She was born May 9, 1917 in Yadkin County to the late John Clayton and Laura Holleman Vanhoy.
Mrs. Brown was a loving homemaker to her family, and worked as a waitress throughout Yadkin County.
She was also a faithful member of Branon Friends Meeting.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husbands, Robert Lee “Bob” Garner and Fletcher B. Brown; sisters, De Ette Darnell James and Fronie Byrd; brothers, Johnny, Clarence, Will, Raymond, Luke, and Dallas Vanhoy; and step sons, Parks Brown and Fletcher Brown Jr.
Surviving are her children, Bobby L. (Conni) Garner, Statesville, David (Alease) Garner, Laura (Norman, deceased) Vanhoy, all of Yadkinville; step children, Bertha McMahan, Nellie Wall, Barbara Hudspeth, Mary Allison, Della Pinnix, Edd, Willie, George, David, Spencer, and Joseph Brown; grandchildren, Sherri Garner, Todd Garner, Stan Garner, Kathy Garner, Greg Vanhoy, and Mandie Kiger; step grandchildren, Eddie Windham, Charlene Cox, Shannon Cox, and Kristina Dukes; great-grandchildren, Josh Garner, Jessie, Kaitlyn, Jeff, Cody Cox, and Brian Johnson; a sister-in-law, Freida Casey; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family received friends Saturday, Oct. 10, at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
Her funeral service was held Sunday, Oct. 11, at the Gentry Family Chapel by the Rev. Hewey Parrish and the Rev. Joe Reece.
Burial followed in the Branon Friends Cemetery.
