The Yadkin Cultural Arts Council has launched their Capital Campaign. Wednesday, May 27, a kick-off party was held at the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center to begin the fund raising for Phase I. The campaign has been named “The Brick” using the sale of brick pavers to be used in the plaza, granite blocks that will be used on the patio, theater seats with name plaques, plaza tables, with name plaques, and other outdoor features items, to raise money for the project.

Phase I will include classrooms with movable partitions for workshops and training in partnership with the library, the community, and the schools. A lobby and art gallery will also be included along with an outdoor courtyard for receptions, wine tastings, and gathering area. An Internet cafe, bookstore and gift shop, along with a full service catering kitchen, and offices for the Arts Council staff and volunteers will also be included.

During the event, John Willingham, President of the Yadkin Arts Council rang a bell as guests purchased items for the campaign. Managing consultants, Stephen and Susan Lyons greeted guests and gave information on the plans for the Cultural Arts Center. The Kruger Brothers Band entertained visitors and Tom Wise, photographer, recorded the event in pictures. Local artists were on hand for guests to experience the culture the center hopes to bring to the area.

Hot dogs were provided by the center for all to enjoy.

The event began at 5 p.m. and by 5:30, the center was filled by patrons and guests.

“We’re hoping to raise $10,000 tonight,” Susan Lyons said. “The goal of the capital campaign is 600,000. Construction is set to begin in late summer of 2009.”

Commissioner Kevin Austin attended the event and was pleased to see the interest from the community.

“It’s real exciting to see this kind of turnout,” Austin said. “It’s good to see this kind of support. What this means for Yadkinville and the county is unmeasurable. This shows that the people want the Arts Center to succeed.”

Wednesday evenings event raised $8,000, according to Susan Lyons and more purchases of ‘bricks’ have been made since the event. Donations can be made to the Yadkin Cultural Arts Center Capital Campaign by calling or visiting the center, 226 E. Main Street, Yadkinville, 336-679-2941. Brick pavers begin at $50 each, theater seats are $350, and the indoor theater stage with name plaque is $20,000. All donations include a one-year Art Council membership.
