Forbush High School’s junior varsity boys basketball team enjoyed a banner season.

The JV Falcons finished 17-3 overall, 10-2 in the Mountain Valley 2A Conference. Coach Jeff Weisner and assistant Anthony Marler’s squad tied Ashe County for the top spot in the MVAC standings.

Team members include Brice Merritt, Josh Beverly, Weston Parks, Jared Gallion, Elliot Vogler, Drake Phillips, Avery Ravit, Mahlon Matthews, Bruce Simms, Nicholas Norman, Michael Wooten, Evan Davis, Cody Eller, Michael Scott and Matthew Cain.

William Bell and Ethan Wood were team managers.

“Throughout the season, the sophmore and freshmen players were dedicated to working together and improving their game of basketball each time they walked onto the court,” Weisner said. “Not only did the team members enjoy a winning season, they also enjoyed several team meals prepared by the parents and volunteered at the Salvation Army during the toy drive at Christmas.

“The coaches and parents are proud of the JV boys’ basketball team for their work ethic, basketball skills and sportsmanship displayed during the 2008-09 winning season.”

The future looks bright for Forbush basketball as a whole. The Falcons’ JV girls team also had a winning season and one of the top records in the Mountain Valley 2A Conference.
