He was born in Yadkin County to the late Isaac W. and Cornelia Reavis Steelman, and was married for 64 years to Mary Louise Steelman, who survives.
He retired as manager of Boston Cleaners; was a member of Faith Bible Chapel; the Young at Heart Club at the church; and was a lifetime member of Woodmen of the World.
He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Betty Cornelia Steelman of Raleigh; son, Isaac Ray Steelman and wife, Barbara, of Midway; grandchildren, Renee Steelman Long and husband, Joel, of Belmont, Mary Kathryn Romero and husband, Juan, of Raleigh, Elizabeth Deans of Chapel Hill, Rebekah Joseph and husband, Josh, of Charleston, S.C.; great grandchildren, Jake and Macy Long; and a brother, Flay Steelman of Burlington.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Howard, Vernon, Thad and Bronson Steelman.
The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 19 at Faith Bible Chapel by the Rev. Mark Robertson, with interment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park.
The family received friends on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory, and at other times at the residence.
