Mrs. Ethel Marie Hall Kelly, 80, of Shelby, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009 at Hospice of Cleveland County.

Born in Yadkin County, Mrs. Kelly graduated from Women’s College of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.

She taught high school science at Yadkinville High School from 1950 –1952 and taught kindergarten in Winston-Salem from 1952 –1967, and in Shelby from 1967-1972.         

She was a member of First Baptist Church of Shelby and was also one of the first volunteers of Hospice.

Mrs. Kelly was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Locksley Samuel Hall and Nellie Mae Dinkins Hall; and brothers, Johnson Hall and Dr. Locksley S. Hall.

She is survived by her husband, Richard Gray Kelly; sons, Dr. Johnson Hall Kelly and wife, Martha Lanier Kelly, and their daughter, Mary Katherine of Shelby; Richard Dale Kelly and wife, Beth, and their children, Paul, Caron, Taylor and Brooke of Richmond, Va.; daughter, the Rev. Linda Marie Kelly and her daughter, Kasey Marie, of Weaverville; and sister-in-law, Marie Hall of Winston-Salem.

Her burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 20 at Sunset Cemetery.

The funeral service will follow at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church sanctuary with the Rev. Tony Tench or Dr. Robert Canoy officiating.

The family will receive friends at Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home & Crematory from 5:30 – 7 p.m. on Thursday,  Feb. 19.
