Starmount grad wins over $20,000 in scholarship money

Cameron Bare of Hamptonville placed second in the Skills USA National Championship Competition held in Kansas City, Mo. on June 23-27.

Cameron competed in Marine Service Technology. He received a $10,000 scholarship to WyoTech and a $12,500 scholarship to UTI.

The Skills USA National Leadership and Skills Conference (NLSC), is a showcase of career and technical education students. During the week, more than 5,600 outstanding career and technical education students; all state contest winners competed hands-on in 94 different trade, technical and leadership fields.

The competition winners receive prizes such as tools of their trade and/or scholarships to further their careers and education. The Skills USA Championships is for high school and college-level students who are members of Skills USA.

Cameron won first place in the Skills USA State Competition held in Greensboro in April and received an $8,000 scholarship and entry into the national competition.

Cameron is a 2012 graduate of Starmount High School. He is the son of Stephanie Bare and the late Tim Bare.
