He was born Sep. 26, 1924 in Yadkin County to the late John Elmer and Selena Bovender Current.
Mr. Current was retired from Spector Red Ball Trucking Company and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.
He was an active and faithful member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, where he was active in various capacities, including choir director, and enjoyed singing with the Yadkin County Senior Chorus.
He loved the outdoors and nature, especially the time spent talking to and feeding his many birds year-round.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his five sisters and two brothers.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Louise White Current of the home; a son, Michael Edward (Ann) Current of High Point; a daughter, Susan Current (Jim) Harris of Kannapolis; grandchildren, Amy Current (Dave) Nissen, Sara Current (David) Hixon, Rebecca Current (Joey) Hammond, Allison Harris (Jason) Nelms, and Matthew James Harris; great-grandchildren, Caleb Michael Hammond, Joshua Matthew Hammond, Ethan Current Hixon, Landon Joseph Hixon, Luke Edward Nissen, and Max Ellis Nissen. Also surviving are a sister, Jean Pardue of High Point; brothers, Jack Current of Hamptonville, Dr. William R. Current of West Jefferson; and a special brother-in-law, Dr. R.R. Rogers of Greensboro.
His funeral service was held on Tuesday, Jan. 13 at St. Paul United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jack Bridges and the Rev. Jesse Clubb. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Military Rites by Yadkin VFW Post No. 10346.
The family received friends Monday, Jan. 12 at Gentry Family Funeral Service in Yadkinville.
